Removal of pupils from lessons
« on: June 22, 2016, 05:11:47 PM »
So I had a situation today which required a pupil to be removed from my lesson (absolute nightmare arranging this) just wondered what is your schools stance on removing pupils from lessons? Is it frowned upon?

Seems to vary from school to school. I work in a school who have a red card system and then I worked in an "outstanding" school which refused to allow students to be removed or even stood out from a lesson. Didn't agree with that school one bit hence why I don't work there now!

My schools uses a system where the teacher gives the pupil a change, warning and then an SLT removal. SLT are very supportive and will gladly remove any pupils and automatically issue them a 1 hour 15 min afterschool detention. After a pupil has been removed they are not allowed into the lesson until their parent has attended a meeting with the teacher who removed them.

We use a system of 3 warnings:

1) warning with no consequence
2) warning with change e.g. Removal from group etc
3) 3rd warning equals a break time detention with a chat after the lesson and a phone call home

If problems persist to a 4th warning then we look at lunchtime detention etc?

What's the view in your school?
